Welcome to “The Carmen Guarino Classic,” an annual post-Thanksgiving flag football tournament held at Millburn High School. This event pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Millburn High School Football Coach Carmen Guarino. With over 100 participants in past years, it’s a competition that brings together people of all ages, and it’s played hard. This year marks the fourth edition of the event, complete with officiating referees, exclusive raffle prizes, and hearty refreshments available for purchase. Join us to honor Coach Guarino’s memory and experience some intense flag football action at The Carmen Guarino Classic!

WHAT TO BRING: Appropriate Athletic Attire (Weather Considerate). Lawn Chair during downtime.
WHO CAN COME: Anyone can come, BUT ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE REGISTERED IN ADVANCE CAN PARTICIPATE.
WHO WAS CARMEN GUARINO?
Coach Guarino was larger than life. He was a devoted son and brother, a dedicated and committed teacher, a one-of-a-kind coach for 41 years, a loyal and dependable friend, and, most importantly, the absolute best father a daughter and son could ever ask for.
Coach flourished in many different sports throughout his career: football, track and field, wrestling, and bowling, at NJ high schools such as Union, Millburn, East Side, Manville, Bridgewater, and Livingston. Whichever sport he coached, he was able to lead his teams to success and was a mentor to many. His career highlighted multiple undefeated seasons, state championships, and Millburn’s first winning season in 29 years. Coach G also took advantage of the high school weight rooms by designing the best exercise equipment for all athletes and students to use. If success was not found on the field that season, it was found in the weight room in the offseason. His determination to better each one of his athletes or students year-round was one of his most honorable skills.
He lived with integrity, respect, and compassion. He was the type of person who challenged you and pushed you to be your true potential. He supported you through the ups and the downs. He never gave up on you and taught you how to fight for the things you love and care about the most. Carmen was the life of the party, a true storyteller at his core, and could always make you laugh.
Carmen’s influence on his peers, players, coaches, and students will continue to carry his legacy on forever.
